On the Road Garage offers paid apprenticeships in a year-long, hands-on training program. Today there is a high earning opportunity for skilled technicians. The existing talent pool is aging out of this industry, and the pipeline of new talent is depleted due to a focus on four-year college and disinvestment in trades. These jobs provide the potential to earn a six-figure income without a four-year degree. Our apprenticeships are focused on advanced technology that requires the most up-to-date skills and knowledge.

Apprentices will be given valuable hands-on training from master technicians and senior management leaders in the fields of:

  • Vehicle Body Repair
  • Vehicle Painting
  • Vehicle Estimation
  • Office Management Skills

In addition collision apprentices will learn the latest in smart car technology to perform

  • Electrical testing procedures
  • Front end alignments
  • Tire and wheel service
  • Pre and post vehicle scans
  • ADAS calibrations

To apply for an On the Road Garage apprenticeship, you must possess the following characteristics:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Have an interest and desire to develop a career in the collision repair industry
  • The ability to keep up and succeed in a fast-paced working environment
  • A positive attitude
  • A desire to learn and be successful

Each applicant will be interviewed by the On the Road Garage leadership team for consideration into the program. The one-year apprenticeship with On the Road Garage will allow you to become a part of the workforce of the future in the collision industry.

CUSTOMER REPRESENTATIVE APPRENTICE

JOB SUMMARY
Required to complete a one-year rotation with On the Road Garage. Assists in preparing estimates on vehicles while adhering to factory specifications and industry standards to restore them to pre-collision condition. On the Road Garage apprentices are essential to the repair process and must be able to perform quality estimates in a timely matter, always keeping complete customer satisfaction in mind.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Apprentices will be given valuable hands-on training from master technicians and senior management leaders in the fields of:

  • Assists in performing quality estimates while keeping in mind on-time status.
  • Assists the Customer Representative in examination of vehicles and works closely with him/her to complete accurate and timely estimates.
  • Assists with greeting each customer in the process of getting a vehicle repaired.
  • Works and communicates with others on vehicle repair status.
  • Complies with all On the Road Garage safety rules, guidelines and standards.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Customer Representative.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be approved by On the Road Garage leadership team into the apprenticeship program.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Desire to work in the mechanical field.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required.
  • Ability to drive vehicles with standard and automatic transmission.
  • Must be able to pass a respirator fit test and wear an approved dust mask.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat and climb.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity, repetitive motion tasks.
  • Vision abilities required include close, distance and color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

BODY TECHNICIAN APPRENTICE

JOB SUMMARY
Required to complete a one-year rotation with On the Road Garage. Assists in repairing accident-related damage to vehicles while adhering to factory specifications and industry standards to restore them to pre-collision condition. On the Road Garage apprentices are essential to the repair process and must be able to perform quality repairs in a timely matter, always keeping complete customer satisfaction in mind.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assists in performing quality repairs while keeping in mind on-time status.
  • Assists Master Technician in examination of vehicle and works closely with him/her to plan necessary repair process.
  • Disassembles and reassembles vehicles removing and reinstalling vehicle parts.
  • Assists the Master Technician in tasks including but not limited to vehicle frame repair, MIG welding, vehicle structural parts repair and replacement, plastic repair, body work/panel repair.
  • Files, grinds and sands repaired panels using power tools and hand tools.
  • Glass replacement.
  • Mechanical repairs.
  • Works and communicates with others on vehicle repair status.
  • Participates in all required safety procedures.

PAINTER APPRENTICE

JOB SUMMARY
Required to complete a one-year rotation with On the Road Garage. Works under the direction of the Master Painter to learn the different roles within the shop while adhering to standard operating procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Assists in performing quality repairs while keeping in mind on-time status.
  • Assists Master Painter in examination of vehicle and works closely with him/her to plan necessary painting process.
  • Utilizes quality standards and desired painting methods used by On the Road Garage.
  • Applies product(s) to various surfaces as directed by the Master Painter.
  • Establishes a good working relationship with Master Painter and On the Road Garage Team.
  • Preps vehicles for collision repairs including but not limited to taping and masking, color sanding and polishing, trimming parts.
  • Works efficiently with the production schedule and meeting deadlines.
  • Mixes and applies primer.
